Baines' River Camp is located about 9km (30 minutes’ drive) from the Royal Airstrip. The camp is set on the banks of the Zambezi and has more the feel of a boutique hotel in the bush than a typical safari camp. The solid structures and air-conditioning throughout the camp help with this feel as does the stylish décor.
The camp can accommodate up to 20 guests, taking children aged 6+. There are 6 ‘Explorer Suites’ which are spacious and very comfortable, in addition there is a 2-roomed cottage which is ideal for families and finally a couple of smaller and cheaper ‘Junior Suites’ which really are only for single travellers wanting to save a bit on costs.
Although the camp is outside the National Park, the team are very good at compensating for this downside, typically guests will be boated down-stream into the Park where they will meet a vehicle in order that they can explore the more game-rich areas of the Park by car before again boating back to camp. This can all take a bit longer than regular activities so it is not unusual to be offered longer trips that might incorporate a pic-nick in the bush.
