Chongwe River Camp & Suites

Standard Tents

There are 9 standard tents spread along the bank of the river, they are modest when compared with some other tented camps but comfortable none the less with outside bathrooms behind. The cost of this camp is one of it’s most attractive features, because there are only a few camps in the Park or its immediate environs the prices have steadily increased over the years making the Lower Zambezi an expensive destination, Chongwe and a couple of its neighbours bring this wonderful destination within the grasp of some guests that may otherwise not have afforded to see the area.

Albida Suite

The Albida Suite at Chongwe is the camp’s most private and spacious option, set slightly apart from the main lodge and designed to function as a fully self-contained unit.

The suite is built in Chongwe’s signature organic style, using natural materials and curved structures that blend into the surrounding landscape. It consists of two en-suite bedrooms, making it well suited to families or small groups travelling together.

A central lounge and dining area connect the two rooms, creating a comfortable shared space, while outside there is a private deck and swimming pool overlooking the river. The layout allows guests to spend time together while still maintaining a good level of privacy within each bedroom.

Stays in the Albida Suite are typically operated on a private basis, with a dedicated guide and vehicle included, allowing for flexibility with activities and timings.

Overall, the Albida Suite is a strong option for those looking for a more exclusive, villa-style stay within Chongwe, combining space, privacy and a high level of comfort with access to the camp’s wider facilities and guiding.

Cassia Suite

The Cassia Suite at Chongwe offers a private and well-designed space, ideal for couples looking for a more exclusive stay within camp.

Built in the same organic style that Chongwe is known for, the suite blends natural materials with soft lines and open structures, creating a comfortable environment that feels in keeping with the surroundings.

The suite consists of a single en-suite bedroom, along with a separate lounge area and private outdoor space. A deck and plunge pool overlook the river, providing a quiet spot to relax between activities.

As with the Albida Suite, stays here are generally run on a private basis, with a dedicated guide and vehicle included, allowing for flexibility and a more personalised safari experience.

Set on the western bank of the Chongwe River, just a short distance from its confluence with the Zambezi, Chongwe Camp enjoys a particularly attractive and slightly more intimate setting than many of the camps positioned directly on the main river.

The camp itself consists of nine standard tents spaced along the riverbank. These are relatively simple but comfortable, with open-air bathrooms set behind each tent. One of Chongwe’s key advantages is its pricing, offering good value within the Lower Zambezi, where rates can otherwise be quite high.

In addition to the standard tents, Chongwe offers two private suites: the Cassia Suite (1 bedroom) and the Albida Suite (2 bedrooms) - both set slightly apart and designed to provide a more exclusive, villa-style experience.

The suites are well suited to couples or small groups, with private plunge pools, dedicated staff, and the option to dine either privately or in the main camp. The Albida Suite accommodates up to four guests across two en-suite bedrooms with a central lounge and dining area, making it ideal for families or friends travelling together. The Cassia Suite is a more intimate option for two, with a single bedroom, lounge and private outdoor space.

Activities are varied and include game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, canoeing and fishing, with the added flexibility of privately guided activities for suite guests.

Chongwe Camp is located approximately 15 minutes’ drive from Royal Airstrip, making it easily accessible while still feeling tucked away within the Lower Zambezi.
