Chundukwa Lodge

Riverside Chalets

There are five Riverside Chalets at Chundukwa, all set on stilts along the riverbank and positioned to make the most of the Zambezi and surrounding vegetation.

The chalets are open-fronted in design, allowing for uninterrupted views and a strong connection to the natural environment. While mosquito nets and gauze screens are provided, the rooms are not fully sealed, and guests should expect a more immersive bush experience, including wildlife sounds at night and the occasional insect.

Each chalet is en-suite and can be configured as either twin or double. Two units are particularly well suited to couples or honeymooners, while the Jacana Chalet is larger and able to accommodate families with additional beds. Children aged 10 and above are welcome in the river chalets.

The style is simple and authentic, with a mix of traditional fabrics and locally made furnishings. All materials have been sourced and built in Zambia, giving the chalets a strong sense of place.

In line with the lodge’s eco-conscious approach, there is no air-conditioning, with the design instead relying on natural airflow.

Chundu Cottage

Tucked away within the grounds of Chundukwa River Lodge, Chundu Cottage is a great option for families or small groups looking for a bit more space and privacy. The cottage sleeps up to six people, with two fairly small double en-suite rooms and a third bedroom that’s perfect for kids.

There’s a shaded verandah out front with lovely views of the river — ideal for relaxed meals or just enjoying some quiet time. It also has its own small plunge pool and private river access, making it a peaceful spot to unwind.

Like the rest of the lodge, the cottage has a homely feel, and the hosting is warm and personal. It’s a comfortable, no-fuss base for anyone wanting to enjoy a quieter side of the Zambezi.

Guide Room

The Guide Room at Chundukwa is primarily intended for accompanying guides and drivers, offering a practical and comfortable base while on duty with guests.

Set slightly back from the main riverfront chalets, the room is simple in design and more functional in nature, with an en-suite bathroom and the option of twin or double configuration. It provides all the essentials needed for a short stay, without the additional space or outlook of the guest chalets.

While more modest, guides staying here still have access to the main lodge areas and can enjoy the same welcoming atmosphere that Chundukwa is known for.

A relaxed, 16-bed private lodge set about 20 km upstream from Victoria Falls, Chundukwa River Lodge is a great option for travellers looking for a more budget-conscious stay without compromising on charm or comfort.

There are five open-fronted chalets, all raised and overlooking the river. Built using natural materials, the chalets are simple yet characterful, giving the camp a rustic and laid-back feel. Each one is designed to make the most of the peaceful surroundings, with lovely views and the sounds of nature all around.

The lodge has a homely atmosphere, and hosting is very personalised and welcoming. There’s a small swimming poolfor cooling off during the day, and shared spaces to unwind and watch the river go by.

This is an ideal base for guests wanting a quiet and comfortable stay on the Zambezi, away from the crowds.
