KaingU Lodge

KaingU is a beautifully built little camp in a remote and idyllic bit of bush. Set on the eastern bank of the Kafue river, so just outside the National Park, KaingU comprises just 4 meru-style safari tents and one family house that has two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, and a central living area. All accommodation units have lovely private decks over looking the river.

Access to this camp and indeed this part of the Kafue National Park has been improved recently with the work carried out on the “spinal road” that comes down through the southern part of the Park, the camp is now a comfortable 4 hour drive from Lusaka, perhaps a little more if coming from the airport at peak traffic times. Charter access is also possible and Proflight have recently started offering a limited scheduled service into Chunga Strip which is about an hour away, this might be a good one-way option to provide a contrast with the road journey.

Activities include bird-watching, boat cruises and fishing on this stunning stretch of river as well as walks and game drives inside the National Park. The game is not as good here as many areas of Zambia or even some other parts of the Kafue, although improving with increased activity in the Park, so emphasis should be placed on the pleasure of parking off in a quiet corner of Zambia and spending time fishing or just watching the river flow gently by.

The camp is open year round although from January through until the end of March the water levels can sometimes result in periods of closure.
