A tented camp overlooking a plain on the confluence of the Luwi and Luangwa Rivers, Kakuli Camp has stunning views along a stretch of Luangwa that is at least a mile long and simply dripping with hippo. The game-viewing, although prolific anywhere in the South Luangwa, is quite exceptional in the area surrounding Kakuli Camp and this has understandably become one of the South Luangwa’s more popular camps.
There are 4 tents so the camp sleeps 8 when full, each of the tents offers stunning views and the open-air bathrooms behind are all slightly differently designed but each is very spacious.
In my opinion Kakuli Camp offers some of the best game-viewing in the South Luangwa National Park and thus a stay of at least 2 nights would be recommended. It is designed to combine with Nsolo Camp which is further up the Luwi River and Mchenja Camp, about an hours walk upstream on the Luangwa but it can fit as well into an itinerary that uses camps in further flung areas of the South Luangwa.
Game-viewing can be either on foot or by vehicle and most guests will get the opportunity to choose a mixture of both. Of course walking in game-rich areas is a real thrill so I would advise that you take good advantage of what Kakuli Camp has to offer and get out on foot as much as possible.
