Jeffrey & McKeith Safaris is one of Zambia’s true assets, an owner operated “old-school” safari business which epitomizes what traditional Zambian safaris are all about. Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith established their operation in 2013 and run it today with obvious passion and a huge amount of bush knowledge and experience.
Musekese was the first of their two camps, it has changed location slightly and undergone a complete re-build in recent years but in my opinion all the changes are for the better.
The camp has 4 lovely, stretched-canvas, tented rooms each on its own wooden deck over-looking a lagoon. The camp is set on the East bank of the Kafue River just below Lufupa, so roughly half way between the Hook Bridge in the central area of the Park and the Busanga Plains. Access is possible by road from Lusaka but that is a good 5 hours otherwise one can fly into Lufupa Airstrip (1 hr 20 mins from Lusaka) then a couple of minutes in a vehicle and 10 minutes in a boat gets you to camp.
Guests can enjoy safari activities in vehicles, boats or on foot, they may also like to visit and learn more about Musekese Conservation, the anti-poaching / conservation operation that Phil and Tyrone established in order to protect their wonderful corner of the Kafue National Park.
This camp works very well as a stand-alone option but I believe it is best used in combination with either its sister camp Ntemwa Busanga located at the bottom of the Plains or one of the few camps set in the heart of the Busanga Plains themselves.
