Royal Zambezi Lodge

Deluxe Suites

Royal Zambezi Lodge offers eight Deluxe Suites set along the banks of the Zambezi, each one positioned to take advantage of the river frontage while still maintaining a good degree of privacy.

The suites are tented in style, using a combination of canvas and thatch, which gives them a lighter, more open feel than a solid structure. They are spacious and comfortably furnished, centred around a large bed with mosquito netting, and with sliding doors opening out onto a private deck overlooking the river.

The interiors are well done without being over the top, with neutral tones and comfortable seating areas, along with a desk and all the expected amenities. The overall feel is one of understated comfort rather than anything overly elaborate.

Each suite is en-suite and well equipped, and the private deck provides a good space to sit and watch the river, which is very much the focus here.

Royal is a larger lodge than many in the Lower Zambezi, but these suites are positioned in such a way that you still retain a sense of space, and they work particularly well for couples looking for a comfortable base from which to explore the area.

Presidential Suites

Royal Zambezi Lodge offers seven Presidential Suites, set along the river and positioned to provide a higher level of space, privacy and comfort.

These suites are larger and more refined than the Deluxe units, with a more generous layout that includes a separate lounge area and well-appointed bedroom. The design remains in keeping with the lodge’s overall style, combining canvas and thatch with more substantial finishes and fittings.

Each suite is en-suite and includes both indoor and outdoor bathing options, with a freestanding bath, outdoor shower and quality fittings throughout.

Outside, there is a private deck with a plunge pool and daybed, all overlooking the Zambezi, providing a comfortable space to relax between activities.

The suites are well equipped with modern amenities, including Wi-Fi, and are designed to offer a more exclusive experience within what is already a well-established lodge.

They work particularly well for couples looking for additional space and a higher level of comfort, or for those celebrating a special occasion.

Royal Zambezi Lodge is a little larger than most camps in the area, offering 15 rooms in total (all with Wi-Fi), made up of a combination of Deluxe and Presidential Suites.

The Deluxe Suites are spacious and well appointed, with king-sized beds, private decks and verandas overlooking the river, along with their own plunge pools. They offer a good level of comfort and work well as a base for exploring the Lower Zambezi.

The Presidential Suites are a step up in both size and finish, at around 156 square metres. These include a separate lounge area, larger en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, copper baths, private salas and plunge pools. They are more refined overall and suited to those looking for additional space and a higher level of comfort.

There is also a family option within the Deluxe category, made up of two interconnecting units (rooms 6 and 7) with a shared outdoor lounge area and plunge pool, accommodating up to four or five guests comfortably.

The lodge is located just outside the western boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park and is generally well priced for the level of accommodation on offer. Access is straightforward, with Royal Airstrip situated just a few hundred metres behind camp. It is also possible to reach the lodge by road from Lusaka to Chirundu, followed by a boat transfer, which takes approximately 4 to 4.5 hours in total.

Facilities at the lodge include a well-established spa with indoor and outdoor treatment areas, as well as a steam room and Jacuzzi.

A full range of Lower Zambezi activities are offered, including game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, canoeing and fishing.
