Sanctuary Retreats have been operating in Zambia since 2007 and this camp in Livingstone epitomises the high standards that run throughout the company.
The camp comprises 12 elevated rooms connected by wooden walkways, the rooms are not just raised off the ground though, they are billed as tree-houses and indeed many of them are set in amongst the tree canopy. The rooms are spacious and well designed, they are air-conditioned and have both bath tubs as well as showers. The verandas are large and the surrounding bush gives a sense of privacy.
The central building has a bar and lounge upstairs with dining below, the food that is produced here is of an excellent standard and I found the general atmosphere to be one of sophistication and style. The pool is at river level offering great views across the water, there are a couple of loungers set beneath billowing cotton which not only allow respite from the sun but also a little privacy.
There is a spa and guests can choose to take treatments in the spa overlooking the river or in the privacy of their own room.
